Glamour and bite (not)

I have been living the glamorous (I wish!) life of a freelance copywriter since the early nineties. That's more than 15 years of interacting with new clients, new businesses and new projects almost every day, through my business, over the page.

My qualifications include a Diploma in Freelance Journalism and industry-based studies in interviewing, research techniques, proofreading and editing.

While formal learning has taught me a great deal, it's via the practical experience of dealing with design/PR/branding agencies, creative directors, web developers, political lobbyists, authors, marketing professionals, editors and a full gamut of business personalities that I have accumulated my most valuable skills. Listening, interviewing, liaising, workshopping, mediating, negotiating, reiterating, researching, analysing, reporting, proposing, teasing out, troubleshooting and snap-shooting - these are all part of my copywriting toolbox.

Modesty aside … I have been blessed with a natural flair for the written word and a commitment to sharp, focused and accurate copy. I can crystallise an idea into a few meaningful words or expand a concept into workable detail. But that all means zip if I can't take a brief, understand a business strategy and translate it into an effective communication product within a given timeframe. That expertise has come from hard work, practice - and lots of it.

Every day I am grateful for the varied experiences of freelance work. Each experience boosts my copywriter "know-how" in some way and ensures I deliver real value for my clients.

Keeping it real

I take an ethical approach to all projects: declaring potential conflicts of interest, agreeing only to realistic achievables, being reachable, flexible and positive.

I enjoy working with like-minded folk, so I choose my clients almost as carefully as I choose my words.
